About Us

Play Together. Build Together. Belong Together.

At United By, we host weekly soccer games—but the score is the least important part.

We are a community-first organization dedicated to creating friendships and relationships that last a lifetime. By organizing our teams around neighborhoods, we ensure that the connections you make on the pitch extend far beyond it, allowing you to stay connected and active in your own local area.

Currently, our main focus is on our weekly soccer gatherings. However, our vision is expanding. We are actively working on creating dedicated reflection and collaboration spaces for organizers of all types of social gatherings—from board game nights to other community sports. We want to empower organizers to build spaces where everyone, no matter their interests, can come together.

Our Vision & Mission

Our Vision: To reduce the destructive forces of loneliness and disunity in society. Our Mission: To enable people of all nations, backgrounds, and faiths to connect deeply with one another through curated, thoughtful social spaces.

Our Guiding Principles

Our organization is guided by overarching principles that dictate how we operate, deeply inspired by the Baha’i faith's core belief that humanity is one.

  • The Oneness of Humanity: "The Earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens." Everyone is welcomed and celebrated, regardless of gender, background, race, age, or faith.

  • The Equality of Men and Women: Humanity is like a bird with two wings—one male, one female. Not until both wings are equally developed can the bird fly. We challenge traditional sporting spaces by ensuring everyone is engaged as equal, valued counterparts.

  • The Nobility of the Individual: We view every human being as "a mine rich in gems of inestimable value." We believe in your inherent capacity to be a protagonist in your own growth and the development of your community.

Our Values in Action

How do these grand principles translate into a weekly game of soccer or a community event? They shape our entire culture.

  • Collaboration Over Competition: It is hard to envision sports without aggressive competition, but we are changing the game. We use consultation and reflection before, during, and after our events to ensure teams act as mutual support systems. We cheer for the other team when they score. We celebrate everyone’s accomplishments, removing the tension, yelling, and aggression that normally separate us.

  • Everyone is a Protagonist: You are not just a consumer of this space; you are a co-creator of it. We don't just rely on organizers to set the mood. Every individual has a duty to ensure the space is joyful, welcoming, and inclusive. We form the culture together.

  • Embracing Diversity: A garden is most beautiful when it is filled with plants of different colors, heights, and features. We embrace different cultures and backgrounds. We actively seek unity, but we know that unity does not mean uniformity.

  • Integration with Social Service: As our groups gain strength and joy, we look outward. We accompany our teams as they design small-scale service projects—like a neighborhood "Clean the Park" day or an awareness tournament—extending our fellowship to the wider community and to those who feel marginalized.

A Note on Rules

We actively fight against having rigid, dictatorial rules. While guidelines exist to ensure fairness, what matters most is the spirit behind them. For example, in our 7v7 soccer games, we may not enforce strict offside rules. However, our values of friendship and collaboration dictate that players don't exploit loopholes just to win. We rely on the honor, nobility, and community spirit of our participants.

(For the specific rules of each space, please see Rules and FAQ).
